How it’s made

Reflux, concentrate, cool

A liquid resole is built under reflux, concentrated under vacuum and then cooled quickly so it arrives exactly where the press needs it.

  1. 01 / 04 Clear, mixing

    Charging and first reaction

Molten phenol and formaldehyde solution are pumped into the reactor and mixed under agitation. The reaction gives off heat from the start, so the batch is brought on gradually.

Charging and first reaction: Clear, mixing
  2. 02 / 04 Boiling, building chains

    Reflux

Vapour rises into the reflux condenser, cools and runs back into the batch. This controlled boil is where the polymer chains are built up.

    Reflux: Boiling, building chains
  3. 03 / 04 Amber, thickening

    Vacuum dehydration

The reflux loop is closed and vacuum applied. Water and unreacted formaldehyde come off at a lower temperature, and solids and viscosity rise toward the target.

    Vacuum dehydration: Amber, thickening
  4. 04 / 04 Deep-amber liquid resin

    Cooling and filtration

The finished resin is dropped into a jacketed vessel and cooled fast, then pumped through a filter press to remove any insolubles before it goes to storage.

Exterior & structural

Overview

Liquid phenol formaldehyde resin (resole) is the benchmark for high-performance wood adhesives. Condensed from phenol and formaldehyde under alkaline catalysis, it cross-links into a bond that is fully waterproof, boil-resistant and structurally durable. It is the chemistry behind BWP and marine-grade plywood.

Our WP-PF series is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid resole, with viscosity, alkalinity and gel time controlled batch by batch to the customer’s pressing schedule. Beyond panels, the same chemistry serves industrial laminates, foundry binders and friction materials where heat and load are unforgiving.

Applications

BWP & marine plywoodBoiling-water-proof bonds for the toughest service conditions.
Structural & shuttering plyLoad-bearing panels for construction and concrete formwork.
Industrial laminatesPaper- and fabric-based phenolic laminates for electrical and mechanical duty.
Foundry & frictionBinder systems for foundry sands and friction components.
